am i able to look at planets still?
i have the Celestron NexStar 102 GT telescope ( http://www.opticsplanet.net/celestron-nexstar-102-gt-telescope.html ) and i lost the remote... i am still able to control the telescope manually.. but am i still able to look at planets? i mean at all? whenever i try (with just the eyepiece) it doesnt zoom in far enough.. do i need to put something on the front of the telescope? do i NEED the remote? can i get a replacement remote? what do i have to do..... also i have this eyepiece and filter kit http://www.celestron.com/c3/product.php?CatID=8&ProdID=271 do i need anything more....?
How on Earth could you _lose_ the remote? It's a vital part of the telescope. You _can't_ control the telescope without the remote: you will strip the gears and damage the telescope mounting completely. Certainly you can buy another remote, but it will be expensive, nearly as much as the whole telescope. You could still look at planets if the telescope were placed on another mount, but any telescope needs its own mount and remote to function properly.
I don't understand what you mean by "zooming": very few astronomical telescopes are capable of zooming. You change magnification by changing eyepieces. If you've lost the remote, I wonder what other parts might be missing, particularly the diagonal prism, an L-shaped piece that goes between the focuser and the eyepiece. If that's missing, you may not be able to reach focus.
I'd recommend taking it back to the store where you bought it to see if they can help you out. That's why I always recommend buying from a store that specializes in telescopes. If you bought it anywhere else, they probably won't know how to help you.
