How can I improve my Holga?
I have a Holga 120N (my first lomography camera) with the 35mm back and I just got my prints back. Only about 15% of them actually came out, which I was somewhat expecting, and I was happy with what did come out. The others looked overexposed and blurry and the good ones were intermixed with the unsuccessful ones. I didn't do any taping yet, because I wanted to develop my first roll of film and then see what I needed to do. Also, most of my pictures had a red bar at the bottom and a reddish tone, which I kind of like, but I was wondering if this is due to a specific light leak or not. Should I do some kind of mod or taping to get more photos to come out, is it a question of how I loaded/removed the film, or is it the way I was taking the photos? I kept it on the N setting, adjusted the focus for what seemed appropriate, wound the film the right way, and had the lens cap off. Or is this just a learning experience?
Sorry I sound so naive!
Part learning, knowing what you can shoot with a holga (or anything else for that matter). I know a guy after 40 years he knows the exposure by looking at his palm. The other part is, hey, that's a Holga. The red lines and silly stuff is why you get one. If you want clean photos that you can focus to pin sharpness you get a expensive Nikon or Minolta ETC 35mm. Now they can be had used for less than a Holga if you're lucky.
But mainly it's about knowing if it's just too dark or light to shoot within the limits of what your camera can do.
