I own 2 Nikon DSLRs (D5000/D3100) I actually have the 55-200mm and therefore the reach was okay. I scan some mixed reviews on this lens and was skeptical. I purchased the lens which weekend took the lens to the Miami Metro Zoo. i used to be worried initially 300mm won't be enough, however i used to be wrong. i used to be ready to get super near the animals and acquire some SHARP shots all the solution to the max at 300mm. I shot at five.6 (max wide open aperture) for this lens and that i was told by alternative photographers for this sort of lens it'd be sharpest f8/f11. Most were stunned how sharp the photos were.
I am on Flickr and my screen name is NikonCoupleSoFlo. I strongly recommend you see actual footage and decide for yourself. i believe a number of the shots are soft wide open and others are not though i used to be shooting through glass/fences in a very heap of the shots. i am simply starting to get into testing it however my preliminary footage are starting up nice - very nice. The sharpness is superb and therefore the lens produces a awfully nice bokeh. I posted the image of the dragonfly with the chicken wire background (see the client uploads) verify the detail within the wings. That shot says it all. it absolutely was handheld and cranked all the solution to 300mm. the initial image is nice however plenty of the detail was lost with the upload to Amazon. however - none the less - it's still pretty sharp. The auto specialise in this lens is quick, smooth, quiet and extremely correct. It locked right in on the topic. it absolutely was set on aperture priority at f/8 1/500sec for the shot that I posted here (shot with a D-90).
I would undoubtedly advocate this lens for the REACH of 300mm ALONE. My next lens are going to be a 70-200mm a pair of.8 for low light/sports since the two.8 are a faster focusing lens further.
