Why do lens hoods cost so much?
lends hood are basically small rings of plastic. im trying to buy one but they cost about £20 from jessops. they shouldn't cost that much its ridiculous!
Some are not very expensive and others cost more than some lenses. It all depends upon a number of things .... One would be how many lens hoods for a particular lens are made, from what material the lens hood is made, how large they are and how difficult each is to manufacture.
The lens hood for my 24-85 mm f/2.8~4 lens is around $12 USD, the lens hood for my 400 mm f/2.8 is over $150 USD. One is a space age plastic and the other is metal.
