Comparing these TLR cameras?
Minolta Autocord (not sure exactly what model)
Rolleiflex Rolleicord III
Yashica Mat 124G
It's mostly between the rolleicord and the yashica but I like that the yashica has a light meter in it.
Autocords were excellent cameras, but there are not a lot of them around and they get expensive.
As for Rolleiflex and Rolleicords, they are excellent cameras, but again they are expensive for what they offer.
I have had all three of the cameras mentioned above and right now I have a Yashicamat 124G and have had no problems with it at all, it takes nice pictures.
You might just take a look at the Yashicamat 124 and skip the G. It is the same camera, the only difference is that they light meter connections on the G are gold - big deal. The price differential will be great, though. You can pay up $400 for a 124G in good working order and then pay $150 for the 124 sans G.
As for light meters. I have had no problem with Yashica light meters, but you have to remember that they were built to run on on a battery that is no longer made because it was a mercury cell. The voltage was 1.35 and what is being used today in them is a 1.5. That does not seem to be a massive difference, but testing on a grey card against outboard light meters, I found that the 1.5 can close you down a stop or a stop and a half, thus underexposing your photograph. You can get a 1.35 battery, an Air Zinc Cell, marketed by Wein which will work. They don't last as long as the others, but your result is better.
